Slight rise in groundnut sowing: Strong growth in Gujarat and Rajasthan, but Maharashtra and Karnataka lag behind
★ In the Kharif season 2025, groundnut sowing across India has shown a modest increase.
★ As of July 11, 2025, groundnut has been sown in 32.99 lakh hectares nationwide, compared to 28.04 lakh hectares during the same period last year — a rise of 4.95 lakh hectares.

State-wise status (as per data released by State Agriculture Departments):
Maharashtra (till 14.07.2025):
★ This year, groundnut has been sown in 0.97 lakh hectares, compared to 1.27 lakh hectares last year — a decline of 0.30 lakh hectares.
Karnataka (till 11.07.2025):
★ Sowing has taken place in 1.18 lakh hectares, down from 1.68 lakh hectares last year — a drop of 0.50 lakh hectares.
Gujarat (till 14.07.2025):
★ Groundnut has been sown in 18.50 lakh hectares, compared to 17.22 lakh hectares last year — an increase of 1.28 lakh hectares.
Rajasthan (till 14.07.2025):
★ Sowing this year has reached 8.60 lakh hectares, while last year it was 6.70 lakh hectares — a notable rise of 1.90 lakh hectares.
★ In these four key states, total groundnut sowing stands at 29.25 lakh hectares, compared to 26.87 lakh hectares last year — a growth of 2.38 lakh hectares.
★ Overall, the trend in groundnut sowing is positive across the country.
★ While the decline in Maharashtra and Karnataka is a concern, strong sowing in Gujarat and Rajasthan has helped balance the national figure. If the weather remains favorable, a rise in production can be expected this season.
