Slow Pace of Government Chana Procurement: Sources
★ So far, only 24,000 tonnes of chana have been procured out of the sanctioned 2.8 million tonnes for the rabi marketing season 2025–26 (April–March), which is less than 1% of the total approved quantity.
★ The main reason for this shortfall is the high market prices of chana, which have consistently remained above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
★ As a result, farmers are not showing interest in selling their produce to government procurement agencies at the MSP.
