Buenos Aires. In Argentina, the soybean harvest for the 2024–25 season has been completed, with final production estimated at 50.3 million tonnes, slightly higher than last year by about one lakh tonnes, according to the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange.
Despite experiencing a hot and dry summer, favorable autumn rainfall helped improve crop conditions. Argentina remains the third-largest producer and exporter of soybeans globally and leads in the export of soybean oil and meal.
Soybean production in the country had peaked at 60.8 million tonnes a decade ago but has since declined. However, the current output is considered normal and satisfactory.
For maize, about 62 percent of the crop has been harvested so far. The exchange estimates total maize production at 49 million tonnes for the 2024–25 season. Argentina holds the third position globally in maize exports and ranks fourth in production.
Wheat sowing for the 2025–26 season has been completed in over 78 percent of the targeted 6.7 million hectares. The remaining sowing is expected to conclude by the end of July.
A drop in temperature and the onset of cold weather are expected to benefit the wheat crop. Argentina ranks among the top seven wheat-exporting countries globally.
India imports the largest share of its soybean oil from Argentina, and a significant volume of sunflower oil as well. Between November 2024 and June 2025, Argentina was the top supplier of edible oils to India.
