Indore. Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), an important organization of the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, says that in the first 9 months of the current marketing season i.e. from October 2025 to June 2026, the total import of soybean in the country increased to a peak level of 7.77 lakh tonnes. In the same period last year (season), only 2 thousand tonnes of soybean was imported. Indian importers' interest in foreign soybean increased due to complex supply and availability situation in the domestic division and high prices.

On the other hand, SOPA has estimated the export of soymeal to decline by about 50 percent from 20.23 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season to around 10 lakh tonnes in the current marketing season (October-September) of 2025-26 because its export offer price is very high in the global market.

According to the latest monthly report of SOPA, a total of 110.26 lakh tonnes of soybean was produced in the country in the season of 2025-26, out of which 77.50 lakh tonnes arrived in various markets till the end of June, which was much less than the supply of 89 lakh tonnes in the same period last year.

In the first 9 months of the current marketing season, production of soybean DOC fell from 68.65 lakh tonnes to 64.31 lakh tonnes and export of soymeal declined from 15.60 lakh tonnes to 9.02 lakh tonnes. During this period, in the domestic division, 6.70 lakh tonnes of soymeal was used for food purposes and 48 lakh tonnes was used for feed manufacturing.
