Sufficient Sugar Stock Available in the Country: ISMA
★ According to ISMA, the 2024-25 sugar season that began on October 1, 2024, started with an opening stock of 8 million tonnes. With production at 26.4 million tonnes, domestic consumption at 28 million tonnes, and exports of 1 million tonnes, an estimated 5.4 million tonnes of sugar stock may remain by the end of the season.
★ As of March 15, 23.8 million tonnes of sugar have been produced, with 200 mills still crushing sugarcane.
★ By March 15, 80% of sugarcane payments had been completed, and 99.9% of cane payments for the 2023-24 season have been made.
★ ISMA stated that the remaining stock of 5.4 million tonnes is sufficient.
★ During the 2022–23 season, the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane was Rs. 305 per quintal, which has been increased by 11.5% to Rs. 340 per quintal for 2024–25, whereas sugar prices have only risen by 5% during the same period.
