Ho Chi Minh City. The cashew industry of Vietnam has set an ambitious target of exporting processed cashews worth $4.50 billion in 2025, marking a 2.7 percent increase over 2024.
Encouraging export performance in the first half of the year has raised hopes that this target will be achievable, supported by continued strong global demand for cashew products.
According to available data, between January and June 2025, Vietnam exported 346,800 tonnes of cashews valued at $2.36 billion. While the export volume declined by 2.7 percent compared to the same period last year, the export value rose significantly by 20.4 percent.
In June alone, Vietnam exported 70,000 tonnes of cashews, earning $475.4 million. The sharp increase in export revenue is primarily attributed to a rise in the average unit export price, which jumped by 23.8 percent year-on-year to $6,805 per tonne in the first half of 2025.
China, the United States, and the Netherlands remained the top three importers of Vietnamese cashews during this period.
Of the total export value, 22 percent went to China, 21.6 percent to the U.S., and 8.4 percent to the Netherlands. Vietnam continues to maintain its position as the world’s leading exporter of cashews.
In May 2025, Vietnam’s cashew exports to China reached the highest monthly level in three years, totaling 65,790 tonnes and earning $414.94 million. This marked a 21.7 percent increase in quantity and a 41.2 percent rise in value compared to May 2024.
The export price to China rose by 16 percent to $6,507 per tonne, surpassing the rate offered to the U.S. The growing demand and consumption of Vietnamese cashew nuts in China has further boosted confidence among exporters. If current trends persist, Vietnam stands a good chance of meeting or even surpassing its 2025 export target.
