New Delhi. The reduction of the GST rate on dried fruits and nuts to 5 percent is expected to increase demand and consumption during this year's festive season.

The President of the Dried Fruits Council (India) stated that the reduction in GST rates will reduce the price of dried fruits.

While cashews, raisins, and walnuts already attracted a 5 percent GST, dry fruits like almonds and pistachios, including roasted cashews, were subject to a 12 percent GST. Dry fruits classified as value-added products were previously subject to a 12 percent GST, but now this has been reduced to 5 percent. This will help increase consumption.

There had been a demand for a reduction in the GST rate on dried fruits, and now this has been accepted. The sector is pleased with this government decision, as it had previously proposed to increase the GST rate to 18 percent.

After the festivals of Navratri and Durga Puja, dry fruit traders are now focused on the demand for Diwali, which is not far away.

There is sufficient stock of dry fruits in the country, and there has been no unexpected rise in prices. Demand and consumption have typically increased rapidly during Diwali. There are signs of demand picking up in December, and it is expected to remain so going forward.
