Tur Sowing Lags in Key Producing States

New Delhi. Sowing of the most important pulse crop of Kharif season - Arhar (Tuvar) is lagging behind last year this time at the national level along with the major producing states.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the production area of ​​tur has come down from 31.70 lakh hectares last year to 30.09 lakh hectares this time, which is about 15 lakh hectares behind the normal average area. Sowing of tur is currently going on, so there is hope of further improvement in the area.

The central government has increased the minimum support price of tur by Rs 450 from Rs 7550 per quintal for the 2024-25 season to Rs 8000 per quintal for the 2025-26 season, but still the farmers are not looking very enthusiastic about its cultivation.

According to official data, during the current Kharif season, compared to last year, the production area of pigeon pea in Karnataka fell from 13.35 lakh hectares to 11.35 lakh hectares (till July 11) and in Maharashtra from 11.07 lakh hectares to 10.98 lakh hectares (till July 14).

In Gujarat, the area fell from 1.70 lakh hectares to 1.16 lakh hectares and in Andhra Pradesh from 63 thousand hectares to 44 thousand hectares, but in Telangana, the area of pigeon pea increased from 3.14 lakh hectares to 3.43 lakh hectares.

In this way, the total production area of pigeon pea in the above states fell by 2.53 lakh hectares from 29.89 lakh hectares to 27.36 lakh hectares.

Apart from the above states, the sowing area of other states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Odisha is also included in the national level production area.
