Turkey’s Lentil Crop Expected to Improve  
★ Recent rainfall has helped Turkey’s lentil crop recover, with production expected to increase by 10-15% compared to last year’s 405,000 tonnes.   
★ Red lentil sowing increased by 10-15%, and while drought from October to January affected the crop, February rains improved conditions.  

Global Lentil Market:  
- India: Estimated production of 1.82 million tonnes, higher than the five-year average of 1.44 million tonnes.  
- India’s Import Duty: Recently increased from 0% to 10%, lower than the expected 25-30%.  
- Australia: Production declined from 1.57 million tonnes to 1.16 million tonnes.  
- Canada: Produced 2.43 million tonnes, with 1.73 million tonnes of red lentils.  
- USA: 450,000 tonnes (mainly green lentils).  
- Global Production: Estimated at 6.6 million tonnes, up from 5.7 million tonnes last year.  

Turkey’s Trade & Market Impact:  
- Imports: 364,000 tonnes in the first 10 months of 2023-24.  
- Exports: 408,000 tonnes.  
- Strong production in all major growing regions has led to increased supply.  
- With rising supply, international prices may remain under pressure.
