Urad Falls, Tur Dal Rises in Myanmar Exports

Mandalay. Data from Myanmar's agricultural exporters' organization, OATA, shows that compared to 2024, the country's urad bean exports decreased from 903,526 tons to 846,084 tons in 2025,
but pigeon pea (tur dal) shipments increased from 299,899 tons to 365,867 tons during the same period. This represents a decrease of 57,441 tons in urad bean exports and an increase of 65,968 tons in tur dal shipments. In addition, Myanmar exported 427,035 tons of mung beans in 2025.
Regarding urad beans, the majority of exports are destined for India. The highest monthly shipment of urad beans from Myanmar in 2025 was 115,914 tons in September, while the highest shipment in 2024 was 102,662 tons in May.
In nine months of calendar year 2025, Myanmar exported more than 60,000 tons of urad beans, while in only three months the quantity was less than 60,000 tons. In 2024, this figure was 10 months and 2 months, respectively.
Approximately 99 percent of Myanmar's tur dal exports go to India. India also imports large quantities of tur dal from African countries.
During 2025, India saw a significant increase in tur dal imports from Myanmar. Currently, both countries are experiencing a good influx of new crop tur dal.
