Weakness Continues in Pea Market in April, Prices Keep Falling
During April 2025, the prices of yellow peas saw a continuous decline across major mandis of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal.
In Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur mandi, pea prices started the month at ₹3750 per quintal and gradually fell to ₹3675/3700 by the end of the month. Similar trends of declining prices and market sluggishness were observed in Mahoba and Rath as well.
At Mumbai Port in Maharashtra, the price of imported Canadian peas dropped from ₹3650/3675 to ₹3650 by the end of April. Meanwhile, the price of Russian-origin peas also declined from ₹3575/3600 to ₹3550.
At Gujarat's Mundra and Hazira ports, prices for both Canadian and Russian peas witnessed slight declines. In Hazira, Canadian peas were traded between ₹3550/3575, while Russian peas traded around ₹3500/3525 per quintal.
Increasing imports and expectations of a new season crop kept the pressure on prices, while weak domestic demand further weighed down the market.
It remains to be seen what decisions might be taken regarding pea imports. For now, prices can be considered at bottom levels, and a significant rally seems unlikely.
