Coriander Prices Soft: No Uptrend Expected

New Delhi. Coriander prices remained soft during the current week. No significant price increase is expected in the near future. However, reports indicate that coriander sowing in the major producing states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan is lower this season compared to last year. New coriander arrivals are expected to begin in the markets of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh during the current month, which will keep prices subdued. It is noteworthy that in 2024, coriander was sown on 3.64 lakh hectares in the country, which decreased to 3.37 lakh hectares in 2025. Further reduction in sowing area is expected this season. According to available information, last year, coriander was sown on 1.62 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh, while the sowing area in Gujarat was 1.28 lakh hectares. In Rajasthan, sowing was done on 47,000 hectares. According to data released by the Gujarat Agriculture Department at the beginning of the current week, by December 29th, coriander had been sown on 1.17 lakh hectares in the state, which is approximately 7500 hectares less than the same period last year.
Stock and Production
According to informed sources, due to a decline in coriander production over the past three years, stocks are also decreasing. According to one estimate, the stock of coriander at the time of the new crop in 2024 was estimated at 40/45 lakh bags, which decreased to 35/36 lakh bags in 2025.  Stocks are estimated to be around 20/25 lakh bags during the current season. Production had reached a record level of 16 million bags, which decreased to 11.5/12 million bags in 2024.  Production in 2025 was estimated to be around 10 million bags. Further declines in production are being reported for 2026. Sources believe that production will be around 9-9.5 million bags.
Lower Availability
During 2026, the availability of coriander will be less than the consumption. It is noteworthy that the annual requirement, including consumption and exports, is approximately 14-15 million bags, but during the current season, the total availability will be around 12 million bags, including 9-9.5 million bags of production and 2-2.5 million bags of carryover stock. Due to this, trade estimates suggest that coriander prices will remain high during 2026. Currently, there is no possibility of a sharp increase in coriander prices because the arrival of new crops will soon begin at the production centers. However, even after the arrival of new crops increases, there will not be a significant decline in prices, and the prices will remain higher than last year. Last year, at the time of the new harvest, the price of Eagle coriander at the production centers was ₹7000/7300 and Badami was ₹6800/7000. Currently, the prices of Eagle coriander at the production centers are being quoted at ₹9200/9500 and Badami at ₹9000/9200.
Exports
In the first seven months of the current financial year 2025-26, coriander exports have been 9 percent higher in quantity and 10 percent higher in value. According to the data released by the Spices Board, during April-October 2025, 37,346 tons of coriander were exported, and the revenue earned from exports was ₹395.40 crore. While exports during April-October 2024 amounted to 34,365 tons, generating revenue of ₹359.69 crore. The total coriander exports during the year 2024-25 were 60,324 tons.
