Gram prices fall due to increased selling pressure and tepid demand

Weekly Review of Gram Market Prices

New Delhi – This week, gram prices have seen a decline due to increased selling pressure and weak demand. The lack of interest in purchasing gram dal and gram flour from millers has limited buying activity, resulting in falling prices. Sowing progress for gram in the country has been slow, with a reduction expected in the sowing area in all states except Rajasthan.

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) updated its pulse production estimates, increasing gram production by 42%, from 13 lakh tons to 19 lakh tons. This boost is attributed to favorable weather in New South Wales and Queensland, while bad weather in other regions like Victoria and South Australia reduced lentil yields.

Despite this, the demand from dal millers remains weak. Consequently, the price of gram in Delhi fell by Rs. 175 per quintal this week, with prices ending at Rs. 6700-6725 in Madhya Pradesh and Rs. 6800-6825 in Rajasthan.

Imported Gram Prices: The fall in domestic Desi Chana prices has led to sluggish demand for imported varieties as well. As a result, prices of Tanzanian gram dropped by Rs. 100, and Australian gram prices decreased by Rs. 200 per quintal, settling at Rs. 6300-6350 for Tanzania and Rs. 6600 for old Australian gram, and Rs. 6700-6800 for new Australian gram.

  • Jaipur: Rs. 6800-6850
  • Bikaner: Rs. 6400-6500
