Volatility in the Gram Market Amidst Weak Demand

New Delhi: During the current week, the gram market witnessed a volatile environment, experiencing a mixed impact of both bullish and bearish trends. At the beginning of the week, limited arrivals and demand support in certain regions led to a slight firming in gram prices; however, this upward trend did not last long. In fact, demand for gram dal (split gram) and *besan* (gram flour) remained weak throughout the week, resulting in relatively limited purchasing activity by millers and processors. Due to sluggish buying by dal mills, there was no significant improvement in the overall demand for gram, preventing the market from gaining upward momentum. Furthermore, limited demand for gram in the *mandis* (wholesale markets)—coupled with increasing supplies—led to a softening in gram prices. Consequently, due to limited buying interest, Delhi gram prices fluctuated within a range of ₹25–50 per quintal during the current week. By the weekend, gram prices settled at ₹5,475–5,500 per quintal for the Madhya Pradesh line and ₹5,500–5,550 per quintal for the Rajasthan line.
Ports
Due to increased selling pressure from importers and sluggish demand, imported gram recorded a decline of ₹25–50 per quintal this week. Following this decline, prices settled at ₹5,200 per quintal for Mumbai (Tanzania origin), ₹5,500 per quintal for Nhava Sheva (Australia origin), and ₹5,400 per quintal for Mundra.
Rajasthan
With buying activity from dal millers subsiding, gram prices in Rajasthan recorded a decline of ₹50 per quintal this week. Following this drop, prices at the weekend stood at ₹4,500–4,950 per quintal in Jodhpur, ₹5,450 in Jaipur, ₹5,200–5,350 in Bikaner, ₹5,000–5,120 in Kishangarh, and ₹4,900–5,265 per quintal in Kota. Maharashtra
Due to limited demand from dal millers, prices for *Chana* (Bengal gram) in Maharashtra witnessed fluctuations ranging from ₹50 to ₹100 per quintal during the current week. Following these fluctuations, prices at the week's end settled at ₹5,200–₹5,500 in Solapur, ₹5,400–₹5,600 in Latur, ₹5,725 in Akola, ₹5,675–₹5,700 in Nagpur, and ₹4,900–₹5,100 per quintal in Ahmednagar.
Madhya Pradesh
With buying activity remaining sluggish, prices for *Chana* in Madhya Pradesh observed fluctuations of ₹50 to ₹100 per quintal this week. Consequently, at the end of the week, prices stood at ₹5,100–₹5,300 in Ashoknagar, ₹5,100–₹5,400 in Ganjbasoda, ₹5,000–₹5,400 in Sagar, ₹5,550–₹5,650 in Katni, and ₹5,650–₹5,700 per quintal in Indore.

Conversely, *Chana* prices in Raipur saw an improvement of ₹25 per quintal this week, reaching ₹5,550–₹5,725 per quintal by the close of the week.
