Groundnut prices soften due to good arrivals and limited demand
New Delhi: While groundnut arrivals in the markets of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have been robust, prices recorded a sharp decline during the week of August 8–14 due to weak buyer demand.
Arrivals / Prices
In Rajkot, with daily arrivals of 8,000–10,000 bags, groundnut prices dropped by ₹1,000 to settle at ₹6,000–8,000 per quintal. Similarly, prices in Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh) fell by ₹300 to ₹6,300–6,800 per quintal; however, in Solapur (Maharashtra), prices improved by ₹200 to reach ₹9,500 per quintal. The market in Bikaner remained steady.
Groundnut Kernels
Prices of shelled groundnut kernels (kernels without the pod) rose by ₹100 to ₹500 per quintal in Solapur and Nagpur (Maharashtra), driven by strong demand from oil millers and exporters.
Groundnut Oil
Amidst normal trading activity, loose groundnut oil prices increased by ₹10 to ₹40 per 10 kg. In Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh, and Jamnagar, prices rose by ₹25 to reach ₹1,725 per 10 kg.
Groundnut Oil (Tin)
In Rajkot, the price of a 15-kg tin of groundnut oil improved by ₹5 to ₹2,730. Additionally, groundnut oil prices remained firm in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bikaner, Chennai, Newai/Tonk, and Hyderabad.
Branded Oil
Branded groundnut oil prices remained stable at ₹2,900 per tin (15 liters) in Kota, while filtered groundnut oil saw a rise of ₹10–20 per 10 kg in Jaipur and Newai.
Groundnut Oil Cake
The price of groundnut oil cake remained steady at ₹44,000–₹53,000 per tonne. DOC prices softened.
