Sharp Decline in Soybean Prices Due to Weak Demand from Crushing Units

New Delhi: Soybean prices recorded a sharp decline across the three major producing states—Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan—during the week of August 8–14. This drop was driven by steady market arrivals and weak demand from crushing and processing units at prevailing high price levels.
Delivery Prices
Plant delivery prices for soybean fell by ₹225–₹475 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh and by ₹100–₹250 per quintal in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Plant Prices
For many plants, soybean prices have dropped below ₹7,000 per quintal. Nationwide soybean sowing is lagging slightly behind last year's figures, even though the planting drive has reached its final stage. Weather conditions remain largely favorable for the crop; provided there is no significant deterioration ahead, soybean production could be satisfactory.
Soy Oil (Refined)
Refined soy oil prices also showed some weakness during the week under review, recording a decline of ₹10–₹12 per 10 kg. Conversely, prices saw a similar magnitude of recovery in some locations. Prices slipped by ₹5 each in Kota and Kandla, settling at ₹1,490 and ₹1,455 per 10 kg, respectively; however, they rose by ₹5 in Haldia to ₹1,452/1,455 and by ₹10 in Mumbai to ₹1,450 per 10 kg.
Arrivals
On August 13, soybean arrivals at mandis nationwide totaled just 90,000 bags (100 kg per bag). Large-scale imports of soy oil from abroad during July have ensured a comfortable supply and availability situation in the market.
Soybean Meal (DOC)
Domestic and export demand for soybean DOC remained weak at high price levels, resulting in some softening of prices.
