Mixed trend in paddy and rice due to balanced arrivals and offtake

New Delhi: Due to the off-season for supplies, arrivals of Basmati and 'A' Grade paddy were limited to a few mandis (markets) during the week of August 8–14. With subdued demand from millers and processors, prices remained largely stable, witnessing only minor fluctuations of ₹100–200.
Arrivals/Prices
Paddy arrivals are currently restricted to mandis such as Narela, Bhatapara, Rajim, Kota, Bundi, Shahjahanpur, and Gondia. Even in these markets, paddy arrivals and trading volumes remain low. During the week under review, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy at Narela mandi rose by ₹20 to reach ₹3,800 per quintal.
Bhatapara
In Bhatapara, the price of 'Shriram' paddy softened by ₹200, whereas Rajim saw only marginal price fluctuations of ₹10–20. Shahjahanpur initially saw daily arrivals of 5,000 bags, which later dropped to 1,000 bags; however, prices remained unchanged despite this decline.
Kota
Kota also received 1,000 bags of paddy daily, while arrivals in Bundi remained below 300 bags. Daily paddy arrivals at the Gondia mandi in Maharashtra were recorded at 3,000 bags.
Rice
As for rice, Basmati exports from India to the Gulf region have been impacted by the ongoing crisis in West Asia, despite the region being a key market. However, export performance for common (non-Basmati) rice remains satisfactory.
Bhatapara
During the week under review, prices for Basmati and 'A' Grade rice remained firm across most centers. In Bhatapara, the price of Shriram rice rose by ₹200, reaching ₹7,200–₹7,300 per quintal.
Punjab / Amritsar
In Amritsar, Punjab, prices for various varieties and grades of rice also saw an increase of ₹100 to ₹250 per quintal.
Rajasthan / Delhi
A similar trend was observed at the Bundi market in Rajasthan. Active trading in Delhi's Naya Bazar also led to a price rise of ₹100–₹200 per quintal. Prices remained stable at the Nagar market in Uttarakhand.
