Groundnut Prices Continue to Rise Despite Good Supply
New Delhi. Although there has been a good influx of groundnuts in the major markets of leading producing states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, strong buying by traders, millers, and exporters led to a significant increase in prices during the week of December 27 - January 2.
Arrivals
The Gondal market in Gujarat saw daily arrivals of up to 50,000 bags, and the Rajkot market saw up to 40,000 bags of groundnuts. Amidst strong buying and selling in Rajkot, groundnut prices surged by Rs. 750, reaching a high of Rs. 9000 per quintal.
Prices
Similarly, groundnut prices increased by Rs. 300 per quintal in Bikaner (Rajasthan), Solapur (Maharashtra), and Mahoba (Uttar Pradesh), and by Rs. 400 per quintal in Mauranipur and Rs. 200 per quintal in Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). Government procurement of groundnuts is also continuing.
Groundnut Kernels
Prices of shelled groundnut kernels remained stable or firm amidst good trading activity. Prices in Bikaner increased by Rs. 100-200 per quintal. Similarly, prices rose by Rs. 300-500 per quintal in Solapur and by Rs. 500 per quintal in Nagpur. This clearly indicates that crushers, processors, and exporters are showing good interest in buying groundnut kernels.
Groundnut Oil
Due to the high price of groundnuts, groundnut oil prices also saw a significant increase. In Gondal, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Jamnagar in Gujarat, the price of loose groundnut oil increased by Rs. 50 to Rs. 1600 per 10 kg. In Rajkot, the price of a 15 kg tin of groundnut oil also increased by Rs. 65 to Rs. 2525. In other centers, the price increased by 20 to 40 rupees per 10 kg.
Branded oil
In Kota, the price of branded oil jumped by 150 rupees to 2600 rupees per tin (15 liters), while in Jaipur, filtered groundnut oil was 100-120 rupees higher.
