Lentil prices continue to rise as demand remains strong
Mumbai. Lentil prices increased during the current week due to weak selling by importers and better buying. This week the MSP was announced by the government. In which the MSP of lentil was increased significantly. In Rabi 2014-15, the MSP of lentil was Rs 2950, which was increased to Rs 6700 per quintal for 2025-26, that is, MSP increased three times in these 10 years. Last year (in 2024-25), the MSP which was Rs 6425 was increased by Rs 275. Large quantities were imported from abroad last year, imports are expected to decrease this year. In lentil producing areas, farmers can give priority to lentil and mustard crops. Due to weak selling and better buying, Mumbai lentil prices registered a rise of Rs. 100/150 per quintal this week and with this rise, the price at the end of the week became Mundra Rs. 6150/6200, Hazira Rs. 6200/6250, Container Canada Rs. 6350/6400 and Australia Rs. 6400/6450 per quintal. Similarly, Kolkata lentil prices also registered a rise of Rs. 200/250 per quintal this week and the price at the end of the week became Vessel Rs. 6575 and Container Rs. 6600/6625 per quintal.
Delhi
Due to the support of the rise in the port and increased buying by the dal millers, the prices of Delhi lentils increased by Rs. 75/125 per quintal this week and with this increase, the prices at the weekend became Rs. 6725 for small Kota, Rs. 7100 for Bundi, Rs. 7150 for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 6800 per quintal for Desi Badi.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to strong buying, the prices of Madhya Pradesh lentils increased by Rs. 100/200 per quintal this week and the prices at the weekend became Rs. 6000/6100 for Ashoknagar, Rs. 5800/6250 for Sagar, Rs. 5900/6450 for Damoh, Rs. 6100/6125 for Indore and Rs. 6750 per quintal for Katni.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to increased demand, during the current week, Uttar Pradesh lentil prices witnessed a rise of Rs. 100 per quintal and at the weekend, Bareilly small price became Rs. 7200, thick Rs. 6825/6850, Kanpur Rs. 6650 and Lalitpur thick Rs. 5800/6150, small Rs. 6400/6500 per quintal.
Others
Due to support of all-round rise and better demand, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a good rise of Rs. 200 per quintal this week and with this rise, at the weekend, prices became Rs. 6950 for Barh, Rs. 6850 for Khusrupur and Rs. 6850 for Mokama. Similarly, Raipur lentil rose by Rs. 100 per quintal during the current week and at the weekend, it became Rs. 6300 per quintal.
Masoor Dal
Due to support of the rise in the price of Masoor and better demand, the price of Masoor Dal rose by 100/200 rupees per quintal this week and with this rise, the price reached 7600 rupees per quintal in Jalgaon, 7600 rupees in Indore, 7850/8150 rupees in Barh and 7750/8050 rupees per quintal in Khusrupur at the weekend.
