Lentil prices remain subdued due to continued lack of demand
Mumbai. Lentil prices continued to decline during the current week. Demand for lentils has remained low, limiting buying by lentil millers. Prices remain under pressure due to the lack of demand and a lack of buying by millers and traders. The number of transactions in wholesale markets has also remained low, leading to a gradual weakening of lentil prices rather than remaining stable. Lentil trading in Western Canada markets is sluggish. Buyers are reluctant to buy due to weak export demand. Although the new crop is almost complete, grade-wise availability remains unclear. Demand for Canadian lentils remains weak in major markets like India, Turkey, and the UAE, while new supplies are arriving in Russia and the United States. Stiff competition from Australia, where lentil production is expected to increase by 34% to 1.7 million tonnes, has also added to the pressure.
