Lentil prices remain stable due to slow buying

Mumbai. During the current week, lentil prices fluctuated as buying remained limited at higher prices. Due to limited demand for lentil dal, buying by lentil millers remained sluggish. According to an estimate, lentil production in Australia may reach 17 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. The weather conditions in South Australia and Western Victoria affected productivity. India imported large quantities of lentils from Australia and Canada, due to which the availability of lentils remains good. Due to weak buying, Mumbai lentil prices registered a rise and fall of Rs 50 per quintal this week and the price remained at Mundra Rs 5950, Hazira Rs 6000 and container Rs 6100/6150 per quintal at the weekend. While no increase or decrease was seen in the prices of Kolkata lentil this week and the prices remained stable at Rs. 6150/6250 per quintal at the weekend.

Delhi

Due to increase in sporadic buying, the prices of Delhi lentil improved by Rs. 25 per quintal this week and with this improvement, the prices at the weekend became Chhoti Kota Rs. 6550/75, Bundi Rs. 7050/75, Uttar Pradesh Rs. 7100/25 and Desi Badi Rs. 6550/75 per quintal.

Madhya Pradesh

Due to sluggish demand, prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a rise and fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal this week and the prices at the weekend remained at Ashoknagar Rs. 5900/5950, Ganjbasoda Rs. 5700/6000, Sagar Rs. 5700/6100, Damoh Rs. 5800/6300, Indore Rs. 6000 and Katni Rs. 6450/6475 per quintal.

Uttar Pradesh

Due to weak buying at higher prices, prices of lentils in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and the prices at the weekend remained at Bareilly small Rs. 7250, thick Rs. 6700, Kanpur Rs. 6550 and Lalitpur thick Rs. 5800/5900, small Rs. 6400/6500 per quintal.

Others

Due to normal demand, no increase or decrease was observed in the prices of Bihar lentil this week and the prices at weekend became Rs. 6750 in Barh, Rs. 6650 in Khusrupur and Rs. 6750 per quintal in Mokama. Whereas Raipur lentil improved by Rs. 50 per quintal this week and became Rs. 6300 per quintal at weekend.

Due to sluggish buying and selling, no increase or decrease was observed in the prices of lentil this week and the prices remained stable at Rs. 7500 in Jalgaon, Rs. 7500 in Indore, Rs. 7750/8050 in Barh and Rs. 7650/7950 per quintal at weekend.
