Global Outlook:

  • Canada: Lentil production is expected to rise by 44%, reaching 26 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, driven by increases in red lentil, green lentil, and other types. India, Turkey, and the UAE are the top importers. Canada’s outstanding stocks are forecasted to rise to 4.8 lakh tonnes.
  • US: The lentil sowing area is expected to increase by 71%, and US lentil production is estimated to reach 4.3 lakh tonnes, up by 66% from the previous year.

The combination of strong supply from imports, especially from Canada and the US, and weak domestic demand has led to the price reductions observed across various regions in India.
