Huge rise in mustard prices due to strong demand from crushing mills

New Delhi. Due to limited arrival in wholesale markets and strong demand from oil mills, mustard prices registered a sharp increase of 200 to 450 rupees per quintal during the week of 6-12 September.

42% condition mustard

The price of 42 percent condition mustard increased by 150 rupees to 6400 rupees per quintal in Delhi and jumped by 325 rupees in Jaipur to reach 6750/6775 rupees per quintal. Mustard prices also remained strong in Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Rajasthan

In Bharatpur, Rajasthan, it reached 6465 rupees per quintal with a strong increase of 405 rupees. An increase of 425 rupees was recorded in Khairthal, Newai and Tonk and 400 rupees per quintal in Nagaur. In Bundi market alone, the price of mustard fell by Rs 450 and got stuck at Rs 5800 per quintal. In major markets of all states, the price of mustard has increased and reached much above the minimum support price.

Mustard oil

Due to the huge jump in the price of mustard, the price of mustard oil also registered a sharp increase. The price of expeller in Delhi increased by Rs 80 to Rs 1320 per 10 kg. There was a rise of Rs 120 in Morena of Madhya Pradesh and the price also increased by Rs 100 in Hapur of Uttar Pradesh. The price jumped by Rs 120 in Agra while in other centers of the country, it increased by Rs 70-80 per 10 kg. The high price of mustard is giving a lot of relief to the farmers.

Arrival

In the markets of major producing states, 3.25 lakh bags of mustard arrived on 6th September, 2.50 lakh bags on 7th September, 3 lakh bags each on 2-10th September and 2.65 lakh bags each on 11-12th September. Each bag weighs 50 kg. The price of mustard cake also increased by 30 to 60 rupees. The demand and consumption of mustard oil is increasing rapidly due to which oil mills are very interested in purchasing mustard oil.
