Decrease in mustard due to weak demand at high prices
New Delhi. For the last few weeks, the wholesale market price of mustard was running at a high level in the major producing states and there was very little possibility of it coming down because firstly, the off season of its supply has started and there has been a tradition of increasing demand and consumption of mustard oil during the festive season and secondly, the government increased the import duty on edible oils. But despite these positive factors, the price of mustard decreased significantly during the week of 11 to 17 October.
42% condition mustard
The price of 42 percent condition mustard fell by Rs 150 to Rs 6550 per quintal in Delhi and by Rs 175 in Jaipur to Rs 6700/6725 per quintal. Although the price improved by Rs 30 in Deesa and Dhanera Mandi of Gujarat, the price came down considerably in the mandis of Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The price of mustard fell by 100-200 rupees in the markets of Haryana and 75-175 rupees per quintal in the markets of Madhya Pradesh. The price of mustard fell by 25 rupees in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh to 6925 rupees per quintal and fell by 150 rupees in Agra to 6900/7500 rupees per quintal. There was also a decline of 50 rupees in Kolkata.
Rajasthan
The maximum fall in the price of mustard was recorded in the markets of the most prominent producing state - Rajasthan. There, its price fell by 500 rupees in Kota to 5800/6100 rupees per quintal and fell by 300 rupees in Alwar to 6400 rupees per quintal. Apart from this, a fall of 100 to 250 rupees per quintal was recorded in the prices of mustard in markets like Bharatpur, Khairthal, Bikaner, Nagaur, Newai, Tonk, Kumbher, Nadwai, Deeg.
Mustard Oil
It was natural for this huge fall in the price of mustard oil to have an impact on the prices of mustard oil. During the week under review, the prices of both expeller and Kachi Ghani categories of mustard oil saw a fall of 40 to 80 rupees per 10 kg. In Delhi, the price of expeller fell by 55 rupees to 1330 rupees per 10 kg. On the other hand, the price of Kachi Ghani mustard oil in Agra fell by a huge 80 rupees to 1400 rupees per 10 kg.
Arrival
Arrival of mustard was recorded at 1.50 lakh bags on October 11, 1.25 lakh bags on October 12, 3.50 lakh bags on October 14, 3.50 lakh bags on October 15, 3 lakh bags on October 16 and 3 lakh bags on October 17. Each mustard bag weighs 50 kg.
