Weekly Review - Mustard (29th November - 5th December)

During the week of November 29 to December 5, mustard prices displayed a mixed trend due to varying supply and demand conditions across different markets.

42% Condition Mustard

  • Delhi: The price of 42% condition mustard rose by Rs. 50, reaching Rs. 6450 per quintal.
  • Jaipur: Prices remained stable at Rs. 6575/6600 per quintal.
  • Gujarat: No price change was observed.
  • Haryana: The price dropped by Rs. 200, with mustard selling at Rs. 5700/6000 per quintal in Sirsa Mandi.
  • Madhya Pradesh: A slight decrease of Rs. 25 in prices was noted.
  • Rajasthan: As the major mustard-producing state, Rajasthan saw mixed price movements:
    • Bharatpur, Alwar, Khairthal, and Bundi: Prices increased by Rs. 50 to Rs. 300 per quintal.
    • Bikaner, Tonk, and Newai: Prices decreased by Rs. 100 per quintal.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Prices showed a decline of Rs. 75 in Hapur Mandi, settling at Rs. 6475 per quintal, while prices remained steady at Rs. 6700/7100 per quintal in Agra.

Mustard Oil

Despite the fluctuations in mustard prices, mustard oil prices showed an upward trend:

  • Delhi: The price of expeller mustard oil increased by Rs. 10, reaching Rs. 1340 per 10 kg.
  • Ganganagar: Prices rose by Rs. 15, settling at Rs. 1325 per 10 kg.
  • Bikaner: A slight drop of Rs. 10 occurred, with prices now at Rs. 1330 per 10 kg.

Arrival

During the week, the average daily arrival of mustard across the country was around 1.50 to 2.00 lakh bags (each bag weighs 50 kg). It was noted that there is a limited stock of mustard left with farmers and stockists/millers, although government agencies have good stock. While mustard sowing continues, the condition of crops is not favorable.

Mustard Cake (DOC)

Business in mustard cake and deoiled cake (DOC) was slower than usual. The new mustard supply is expected to arrive in the mandis by February 2025.

Overall, the mustard market experienced varied price movements due to differing local factors, but the overall trend was influenced by supply constraints and ongoing sowing activities.
