Significant rise in mustard prices due to strong demand from millers and traders

New Delhi. Due to less than normal arrival of goods in important wholesale markets of major producing states and strong demand from oil millers and traders, stockists, mustard prices have been rising sharply for the last few weeks.
42% condition mustard
During the week of July 5 to 11, the price of 42 percent condition mustard increased by Rs 150 to Rs 7000 per quintal in Delhi and by Rs 125 in Jaipur to reach Rs 7200/7225 per quintal.
Haryana / MP
Similarly, the price of normal average quality mustard was up by Rs 100-150 per quintal in the markets of Haryana and Rs 150-200 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh. The important thing is that the price of mustard has increased to above the minimum support price in all the major mandis, due to which the government agencies are getting good success in selling the stock purchased from the farmers. The minimum support price of mustard has been increased by Rs 300 from Rs 5650 per quintal for the 2023-24 season to Rs 5950 per quintal for the 2024-25 season, while the price of this important oilseed is running between Rs 6000-7000 per quintal in all the mandis except Bikaner. Due to this, the farmers are getting good income.
Rajasthan / Uttar Pradesh
Due to normal arrival and strong demand of mustard in the mandis of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the price is increasing very fast. In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, the price of mustard has jumped to a high level of Rs 7550/7825 per quintal. In Kolkata also the price is running above Rs 7000 per quintal.

The price of Kachi Ghani mustard oil in Hapur and Agra jumped by Rs 70 to Rs 1680/1750 per 10 kg and Rs 1580 per 10 kg respectively.
Mustard Cake (DOC)
However, surprisingly, the prices of mustard cake and DOC softened due to weak demand at high prices. Export demand has weakened and its business is also slow in the domestic segment.
