Mustard Prices Show Marginal Improvement Amidst Normal Trading
New Delhi: Unlike previous weeks, the wholesale market prices of mustard did not witness significant fluctuations during the week of December 27th to January 2nd. Prices remained stable or increased slightly by Rs. 25-50 per quintal amidst normal trading.
42% Condition Mustard
The price of 42% condition mustard remained unchanged at Rs. 6900 per quintal in Delhi and Rs. 7100 per quintal in Jaipur. Prices of average quality mustard also did not show much fluctuation. However, mustard prices in all markets are still higher than the government's minimum support price. Prices improved by Rs. 25-50 in Agra and Hapur in Uttar Pradesh.
Mustard Oil
Amidst weak trading, a softening trend was observed in the prices of mustard oil expeller and kachi ghani (cold-pressed). The price of expeller oil in Delhi slipped by Rs. 5 to Rs. 1410 per 10 kg, while in Mumbai and Ludhiana, it decreased by Rs. 20 each to Rs. 1460 and Rs. 1410 per 10 kg respectively. Meanwhile, the price of kachi ghani mustard oil in Kota saw a sharp decline of Rs. 65, falling to Rs. 1405 per 10 kg.
Stock
It is the off-season for mustard supply. Producers, traders, oil millers, and exporters have limited stocks of mustard remaining, but the arrival of new mustard is expected to begin next month. Considering this, farmers may try to increase the sale of their stock in January. The area under mustard cultivation has increased significantly, and the crop condition is reported to be satisfactory.
Mustard Cake (DOC)
Trading in mustard cake and DOC remained weak, leading to a softening of prices. Mustard cake prices declined by Rs. 80 to 100 per quintal in some places, while in Kanpur, the price of mustard DOC at one plant fell by Rs. 200 to Rs. 21300 per ton. The week under review coincided with the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, so business was not very brisk.
