Mustard prices soften due to weak demand and normal arrivals
New Delhi: Although daily mustard arrivals in key wholesale markets of major producing states have dropped significantly from their peak levels, prices fell by ₹50–100 per quintal during the week of May 30–June 5 as demand from oil millers and traders weakened at higher price points.
42% Condition Mustard
The price of 42% condition mustard dropped by ₹50 each in Delhi and Jaipur, settling at ₹7,800 and ₹7,950 per quintal, respectively.
Mustard Seed
Demand for average quality mustard remained somewhat weak, causing prices to fall in Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan; however, in the Hapur market (Uttar Pradesh), prices surged by ₹275 to reach ₹8,400 per quintal, and in the Agra market, they improved by ₹75 to touch a high of ₹8,300–8,700 per quintal.
Kolkata
Prices in Kolkata rose by ₹100, while in Alwar, they increased by ₹50. Despite minor fluctuations, mustard prices across all markets remain well above the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹6,200 per quintal. In fact, prices are consistently above ₹7,000 per quintal, ensuring attractive returns for farmers.
Mustard Oil
A mixed trend was observed in mustard expeller oil prices. In Delhi, the expeller oil price softened by ₹10 to ₹1,560 per 10 kg, and in Charkhi Dadri, it fell by ₹20 to ₹1,560 per 10 kg. Conversely, the price of *Kachchi Ghani* (cold-pressed) mustard oil rose by ₹30 to ₹1,605 per 10 kg in Jaipur and surged by ₹50 to ₹1,680 per 10 kg in Kolkata. Prices in Hapur also saw an increase of ₹20.
Mustard Cake (DOC)
However, prices declined due to sluggish trading in mustard cake and DOC. The price of mustard DOC softened by ₹1,500–2,000 per tonne, while the rate for mustard cake eased by ₹50–100 per quintal.
