Soft trend continues in Urad market; prices under pressure due to rising arrivals
Chennai: A bearish trend persisted in the Urad market throughout the week. Prices faced pressure due to sluggish buying and increased arrivals of summer-crop Urad in producing markets. The market failed to receive the expected support, as buying by dal mills and traders remained limited to immediate requirements. While arrivals of the new summer Urad crop are steadily rising, domestic demand remains constrained. With demand lagging behind the increased supply, Urad prices remained under pressure in most markets. Buyers are currently adopting a cautious approach, purchasing only as needed, which is preventing any bullish momentum from building in the market. Adequate availability of imported Urad and increased selling by importers have also exerted additional pressure on the market. Due to weak demand, Urad prices in the Chennai market dropped by ₹50 to ₹75 per quintal this week. By the weekend, prices stood at ₹7,800 per quintal for FAQ Urad and ₹8,475 per quintal for SQ Urad. A soft trend was observed in the Mumbai market as well; Urad prices there fell by ₹50 per quintal during the week, settling at ₹7,800 per quintal by the weekend. Market experts believe the Urad market may remain under pressure for now due to rising arrivals and weak demand. However, prices could regain support in the future if the pressure from arrivals eases and demand for the pulse improves. Current market sentiment remains bearish.

Delhi
Urad prices in Delhi fell by ₹75–100 per quintal this week due to the impact of a decline in port rates and sluggish demand. By the weekend, prices stood at ₹8,125 per quintal for FAQ quality and ₹8,800 per quintal for SQ quality.
