Paddy and Rice Prices Firm Up Due to Strong Buying Interest
New Delhi: Due to the off-season for supplies, paddy arrivals are limited to select markets across the country, including Narela, Bhatapara, Rajim, Kota, and Bundi. The transplanting season for Kharif paddy has officially commenced, and the new crop is expected to start arriving in markets from October.
Delhi
During the week of May 30–June 5, Delhi's Narela market recorded an average daily arrival of 1,000 bags of paddy; however, prices remained largely unchanged due to limited trading activity. In Chhattisgarh, Bhatapara market saw daily arrivals of 7,500–8,000 bags, while Rajim market received 8,000–10,000 bags, yet prices remained mostly stable.
Uttar Pradesh
In Bhatapara, the price of Mahamaya paddy softened by ₹100 per quintal. Meanwhile, Shahjahanpur market in Uttar Pradesh is receiving 500–1,000 bags of paddy daily, with active trading taking place.
Rajasthan
Daily paddy arrivals dropped to 1,500–2,000 bags in Rajasthan's Bundi market and 550–750 bags in Kota market; however, strong demand from millers, processors, and exporters drove prices up by ₹100–200 per quintal.
Rice
Domestic and export demand for rice remains steady. Although Basmati rice exports to West Asia, the Middle East, and the Gulf region have been affected by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, shipments to other countries and regions remain robust.
Amritsar
Prices for various varieties and grades of rice in Amritsar rose by ₹100–200 per quintal, driven by strong buying from exporters and outstation traders. In contrast, prices in Bundi remained largely stable. No significant change in rice prices was observed in the Uttarakhand market either.
Delhi
However, while no major fluctuations were seen in Delhi's Naya Bazar, there was brisk trading in certain rice varieties. Consequently, the price of 1401 Steam rice rose by ₹200 to reach ₹9,250 per quintal. An increase of ₹100 per quintal was recorded for both 1509 Sela and Steam varieties.
