Limited trading of paddy due to non-arrival of new crop

New Delhi. The transplantation of Kharif paddy has reached its final stage and there has been a good increase in its area as well. The harvesting and preparation of the new crop will start from next month and the off-season of its supply is still going on. During the week of 5 to 11 September, there was no or negligible arrival of paddy in most of the mandis and hence the pace of trading was slow and the price remained stable.

Delhi

During the week under review, the price of 1509 hand paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi fell by Rs 385 to Rs 2200/2725 per quintal. There was no trading in Najafgarh Mandi due to stoppage of arrival. The price of paddy remained stable amid limited trading in Bhatpara and Rajim Mandis of Chhattisgarh, but the price of 1509 paddy in Amritsar increased by Rs 125 to Rs 2100/2970 per quintal.

Harvesting and preparation of the new crop of 1509 Pusa Basmati paddy has already started. The Central Government has now abolished the minimum export price (MAP) of $ 950 per tonne declared for Basmati rice to ensure better returns to the producers of Basmati rice.

Rice

As far as Basmati rice is concerned, despite some obstacles, its export is being done brilliantly from the country. During the last financial year, its export jumped to a new record level and in the current financial year also the shipment condition is very good. The government wants to maintain this sequence. This time, there is an estimate of a huge increase of 15-20 percent in the production of Basmati paddy rice as compared to last year, which will increase the export stock of rice. Generally, the rice market also seems calm and stable, but at some places, some fluctuations were also seen in it. The price of Vishnu Bhog rice in Bhatpara improved by Rs 100 to Rs 6700/6800 per quintal. But the price of 1718 steam rice in Amritsar fell by Rs 200 to Rs 7250/7300 per quintal.
