Pressure on Paddy Prices due to Decrease in Export Price of Rice

New Delhi. Due to off season of supply, very less quantity of paddy is coming in major mandis and the price of Basmati is very high in it. The price of rice has softened in the global market due to which millers-processors and exporters are not getting incentive to buy paddy at high prices.
Arrival
During the week of 7th to 13th June, 4-6 thousand bags of paddy arrived daily in Narela Mandi of Delhi, 7-8 thousand bags in Bhatpara Mandi of Chhattisgarh and 8-9 thousand bags in Rajim Mandi, but due to weak demand, prices either remained stable or softened by 25-50 rupees.
Uttar Pradesh
Some arrival of Basmati paddy is happening in some mandis of Uttar Pradesh, but due to very low activity of buyers, the price is going down by 50-100 rupees per quintal. In Kota and Bundi of Rajasthan, prices fell by Rs 100-200 per quintal amid daily arrival of 5-10 thousand bags of paddy.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, its export demand has also not picked up. The business of general category rice has slowed down because a good stock of it is present in major importing countries.
Basmati Rice
Due to a sharp fall in the export offer price of Basmati rice, the export quantity has increased but the export income has not increased accordingly. The price of rice remained soft in Bhatapara and in Amritsar the price of 1718 Sela rice came down by Rs 250 per quintal and the price of 1509 Sela came down by Rs 100 per quintal.
Uttarakhand
Rice business improved slightly in the Magar Mandi of Uttarakhand, due to which the prices of rice of most varieties and categories increased by Rs 100 to Rs 300 per quintal. In Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan, the price of Sugandha and 1509 rice fell by Rs 300 each to Rs 5600/5650 per quintal and Rs 6150/6200 per quintal respectively. The price of 1718 Sela rice fell by Rs 400 and got stuck at Rs 6650/6700 per quintal.
Delhi
The price of Taj Sela rice improved by Rs 100 to Rs 5000/5200 per quintal in Delhi's Naya Bazar, while the prices of most other varieties and categories of rice remained stable. The export performance of non-Basmati rice has been weak since March 2025 and prices are also witnessing a decline. Basmati rice exporters tried to increase the quantity by reducing the price. Now due to the start of a fierce fight with Israel, the export of Indian Basmati rice to Iran is likely to be temporarily affected.
