Limited trading in paddy / Mixed trend in rice
New Delhi. Rabi and Zaid season paddy production is very low in northern India, but it is cultivated well in the eastern and southern provinces. Kharif paddy transplantation is going on in full swing and its production area is ahead of last year. In the important markets of major producing states, the arrival of non-Basmati (normal) paddy is becoming negligible, but the business of Basanti paddy is going on normally.
Demand
During the week of July 5-11, due to the lack of strong demand from millers / processors and exporters, the paddy business remained sluggish and slight ups and downs were seen in the prices.
Delhi
Amidst limited trading in Delhi's Narela Mandi, the price of 1509 hand paddy improved by Rs 20 to Rs 3000 per quintal and the price of 1718 increased by Rs 38 to Rs 3500 per quintal. The daily arrival of paddy in the market was between 1200 to 3000 bags. In Bhatapada of Chhattisgarh, 3000 bags of paddy were supplied daily but the prices remained stable. Similarly, the arrival of paddy in Rajim Mandi increased to 9000 bags but there was no increase in prices.
Uttar Pradesh
There was some arrival of Basmati paddy in Jahangirabad, Shahjahanpur and Dibai of Uttar Pradesh but no significant change was seen in its price. But in Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan, due to average supply between 500-900 bags and good demand from buyers, the price of Basmati and Sugandha paddy increased by Rs 125-250 per quintal. In Kota, there was daily arrival of 600-1000 bags of paddy and prices remained stable to a great extent.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, there was no encouraging business in it and in many markets the prices also remained stable at the old level. A mixed trend was seen in the price of rice in the Nagar Mandi of Uttarakhand. There the price of Dehraduni Basmati rice fell by Rs. 500 and the price of 1121 steam rice fell by Rs. 100 per quintal, but the price of 1121 Sela rice fell by Rs. 200 per quintal, 1509 Sela fell by Rs. 100 per quintal, but the price of 1121 Sela rice rose by Rs. 200 per quintal, 1509 Sela rose by Rs. 100 per quintal and the price of 1509 steam rice rose by Rs. 200 per quintal.
Rajasthan
In Bundi, the price of 1718 Sela rice fell by Rs. 100 per quintal, but the price of 1121 Sela rice rose by Rs. 200 per quintal, 1509 Sela rose by Rs. 100 per quintal and the price of 1509 steam rice rose by Rs. 200 per quintal. In Bundi, 1718 Sela rice rose by Rs 100 to Rs 6500/6550 per quintal.
Haryana
In Haryana's Karnal Mandi, rice was traded in limited quantity and hence no fluctuations were seen in the prices. In Delhi's Naya Bazar, demand remained weak due to which the prices of some varieties of rice fell by Rs 100-200 per quintal.
