New Delhi. Limited arrival of peanuts was seen in the markets of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka as well as Uttar Pradesh during the week of 9-15 August and prices remained almost stable. In Uttar Pradesh, the price of peanuts increased by Rs 100 in Jhansi to Rs 4400/4900 per quintal, jumped by Rs 200 in Mahoba to Rs 4500/5100 per quintal and improved by Rs 50 in Mauranipur to Rs 4800/5700 per quintal.

The daily arrival of peanuts in these markets decreased considerably. On the other hand, the price of peanuts remained stable at Rs 5000/7500 in Rajkot, Gujarat, Rs 5300 in Bikaner, Rajasthan and Rs 6500 per quintal in Solapur, Maharashtra.

The demand for shelled groundnut kernels from millers and exporters remained limited due to which the prices remained stable in most of the centres. However, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, the price of 50/60 count and 60/70 count kernels fell by Rs. 100 each to Rs. 10,300 and Rs. 9,700 per quintal respectively.

No special activity was seen in the business of peanut oil cake and oil meal and hence there was no significant fluctuation in prices.

Peanut sowing was ahead of last year at the national level but now it has lagged behind. Due to this, the next production is likely to decrease a bit. Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra have received good monsoon rains. Floods were also seen in some areas of Rajasthan. Whether the crop was damaged or not - it will be known later. From October, its new crop will start arriving in large numbers and then pressure on prices may increase.
