Peas prices fall due to weak demand

Kanpur. The impact of the government's decision to extend the deadline for duty-free import of yellow peas is clearly visible on the pulses markets of the country. During the current week, the prices of peas declined as selling pressure was seen in the market. According to traders, the possibility of increased availability of imported peas due to the extension of the deadline for duty-free import has created pressure in the domestic market. This had a direct impact on the wholesale markets, where stockists and traders quickly started clearing their old pea consignments. Due to this selling, the prices of peas softened. Experts believe that if the import situation continues and domestic demand remains weak, then further decline in pea prices is possible in the coming weeks. Due to increased selling pressure from importers and sluggish buying, imported peas witnessed a decline of Rs 50/100 per quintal during the current week and the prices remained at Mumbai Canada Rs 3550/3575, Russia Rs 3400/3425 and Mudra Canada Rs 3300/3325 and Russia Rs 3200/3225 per quintal at the weekend. Similarly, Kolkata peas also declined by Rs 100 per quintal this week and remained at Canada Rs 3750 and Russia Rs 3650 per quintal at the weekend. Due to sluggish demand, Kanpur peas witnessed a decline of Rs 125 per quintal this week and with this decline, the prices remained at Rs 3525/3550 per quintal at the weekend. Similarly, Lalitpur peas also witnessed a decline of Rs 150/200 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs 3000/3200 per quintal at the weekend. Due to lack of demand, the prices fell by Rs 200 in Rath and Rs 200 in Mahoba, and at the end of the weekend the prices remained at Rs 3000/3100 in Rath and Rs 3200/3400 per quintal in Mahoba. Similarly, Jalaun peas also fell by Rs 150 and Konch by Rs 100 per quintal, and at the weekend they remained at Rs 3100 in Jalaun and Rs 3120 per quintal in Konch. Due to weak demand, a decline of Rs 50/100 per quintal was witnessed in the prices of peas in Madhya Pradesh this week and with this decline the prices remained at Rs 3175/3200 in Damoh and Rs 3100/3200 per quintal at the weekend.
