Pea prices fall due to sluggish buying
Kanpur. During the current week, prices in the pea market witnessed a downward trend. According to market sources, pea prices are under pressure due to continued selling pressure and weak customer base. The supply in the market is maintained due to the selling done by stockists, but due to weak demand, prices are not able to remain stable. Unseasonal rains in Saskatchewan and Alberta provinces of Western Canada have caused waterlogging in the fields, which is creating difficulties in harvesting peas. Green peas are likely to suffer more damage, while the condition of yellow pea crop is said to be fine. Although the production may be better than last year, there is concern about the quality of the crop. Currently, the price of yellow peas is $ 9.00–9.25 / bushel and green peas is $ 12.00–13.00 / bushel. Maple pea prices are stable. Export demand is weak. Trade in China is affected due to 100% import duty and anti-dumping investigation, while in India, despite import duty being free, buyers are less active. In such a situation, the possibility of increase in prices seems less at present.
