Red chilli prices strong: Sowing to decrease at production centres
New Delhi. During the current week, prices of red chilli have increased. Although the arrival at production centres is satisfactory, but due to improved buying from Bangladesh and China as well as news of reduced sowing at production centres this year, prices have improved. During the current week, prices of red chilli Teja have increased by 4/5 rupees per kg in Guntur and Khammam Mandi. Sources believe that there is no possibility of a slowdown in prices in the near future. Because the arrival of new red chilli in the markets of Madhya Pradesh will start around Diwali.
Sowing Estimate
According to the information received, 80/90 percent sowing of red chilli has been completed in Madhya Pradesh. But due to the producers not getting proper price, there are reports of a 20/25 percent decrease in sowing area. Sowing is also expected to be low in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There is a possibility of delay in sowing due to lack of rain in Andhra Pradesh. Usually, sowing starts from the first week in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but sowing work has not started yet. Because there has not been enough rain yet. It is noteworthy that the arrival of new red chillies in Madhya Pradesh starts in the month of October-November, whereas in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the arrival starts in the month of January-February.
Yield
Due to farmers not getting a fair price for their produce, there is a possibility of decline in red chilli production in the second year as well. Because there are reports of sowing being done on less area. According to the information received, the production of red chilli in the major producing state of Andhra Pradesh during the year 2024 was about 2 crore bags (each bag is 45 kg), which has come down to 1.50 crore bags in 2025. Production is also expected to be low in the year 2026. In Telangana also, there is news of production of 60/65 lakh bags during the current season. Whereas earlier the production was considered to be 75/80 lakh bags.
Stock
According to the information received from the markets of the producing centers, the stock of red chilli in the markets of the major producing state Andhra Pradesh is believed to be around 80/85 lakh bags. While the stock in Guntur market alone is estimated to be 55/60 lakh bags. Apart from this, the stock in Khammam is expected to be 20/22 lakh bags and Warangal 22/25 lakh bags.
Slow-fast
Informed sources believe that there is no possibility of slowdown in the current prices of red chilli. But much rise is also not possible right now. During the current month, the prices of red chilli will remain between 3/5 rupees per kg slow-fast. Because right now there is no export demand as expected. If the export demand increases, then a rise of 8/10 rupees per kg is possible. But there is no possibility of recession in the current prices. Because the arrival in the markets has also started decreasing, apart from this the prices are also running lower than last year. Last year, the price of red chilli Teja in the markets was being quoted at Rs 190/200 per kg, whereas currently the price is Rs 130/135.
Export more
According to the data released by the Spices Board, during the year 2024-25, the export of red chilli was 715506 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 11404.90 crore. Whereas in the year 2023-24, the export was 601084 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 12492.48 crore. According to an estimate, record export of red chilli was done in the year 2024-25. Earlier, in the year 2020-21, a record export of 649815 tonnes of red chilli was done.
