Soybean prices fall due to strong arrival of new crop
New Delhi. In the three top producing states - Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan as well as Karnataka and Gujarat, the arrival of new and old soybean is increasing rapidly, while government procurement is still delayed. However, last month the government had increased the basic import duty on crude and refined edible oils by 20 percent with the hope that this would increase the market price of soybean. Demand and consumption of soybean refined oil was also expected to increase during the festive season, but at least during the week of October 11-17, soybean prices did not increase, rather some decline was recorded.
Plant Delivery Price
During the week under review, the plant delivery price of soybean fell by 50 to 100 rupees in Madhya Pradesh to Rs 4550-4650 per quintal and by the same amount in Maharashtra to between Rs 4500-4600 per quintal. The government has increased the minimum support price of soybean from Rs 4600 to Rs 4892 per quintal, but the market price is much lower than this.
Arrival
There is a huge arrival of soybean in the markets of major producing states. Its quantity increased from 7.25 lakh bags on October 14 to 8.25 lakh bags on October 15 and jumped to 9.80 lakh bags on October 16. On October 17 also, 9.80 lakh bags of soybean arrived.
Soya oil (refined)
Due to weakening of soybean prices, the price of soya refined oil also fell by 15 to 30 rupees (one and a half to three rupees per kg) per 10 kg. Its price fell by 35 rupees to 1220 rupees per 10 kg in a unit of Mandsaur. In Mumbai also it fell by Rs 40 to Rs 1240 per kg and in Haldia it fell by Rs 60 to Rs 1220 per 10 kg. There was a decline of Rs 5 each in Kandla and Kota. The price of soybean oil remained somewhat soft in the global market also. The prices softened due to slow business of soybean DOC. Due to this the export performance is expected to improve in the coming time. Usually, good export of soybean meal takes place during October to March.
