Soybean prices surge due to strong demand from crushing units
New Delhi: Due to limited arrivals in major markets, continued government procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and strong buying by crushing and processing units, the plant delivery price of soybeans rose by Rs. 100-200 during the week of January 3-9, reaching above Rs. 5000 per quintal. In one unit in Hingoli, it reached Rs. 5300 per quintal, which is slightly below the support price of Rs. 5328 per quintal.
Rajasthan
In the units of Kota, Rajasthan, the price of soybeans increased by Rs. 125, reaching Rs. 5000-5500 per quintal. Due to the significant increase in soybean prices, the price of refined soybean oil also increased by Rs. 15-30 per 10 kg in Madhya Pradesh and by Rs. 20-40 per 10 kg in Maharashtra.
Soybean Oil (Refined)
The price of refined soybean oil improved by Rs. 10 in Mumbai and Rs. 15 in Haldia, reaching Rs. 1270 per 10 kg. In Kota, it increased by Rs. 30 to Rs. 1310 per 10 kg, and in Kandla, it increased by Rs. 35 to Rs. 1285 per 10 kg. Prices of soybean degummed oil also increased significantly in the international market. Soybean oil imports into India increased considerably during December 2025, and imports are expected to remain strong in January as well.
Arrivals
During the week under review, soybean arrivals at national-level markets were 2.60 lakh bags on January 3, 3.10 lakh bags on January 5 and 6, 3.50 lakh bags each on January 7 and 8, and 3.80 lakh bags on January 9. Each bag weighs 100 kg or 1 quintal. There was heavy trading of soybean meal (DOC) in Maharashtra, leading to a price increase of ₹2000-3000 per ton.
