Decline in Urad Prices Due to Weak Buying and Increased Arrivals

Chennai: A bearish sentiment prevailed in the Urad market throughout the current week. Prices came under pressure due to weakening buying interest and increased arrivals of the summer Urad crop in key producing markets. The market failed to receive the expected support, as purchases by dal mills and traders remained strictly need-based. Arrivals of the new summer crop are steadily rising, while demand in the domestic market remains limited. With supply outpacing demand, Urad prices remained under pressure across most markets. Market experts note that buyers are currently adopting a cautious stance, purchasing only to meet immediate requirements. Consequently, a bullish momentum has failed to materialize in the market. However, Urad prices could find renewed support once the pressure from fresh arrivals subsides and demand begins to improve. Increased selling by importers, coupled with sluggish demand, led to a decline of ₹50–75 per quintal in Chennai Urad prices this week. By the weekend, prices settled at ₹7,850 per quintal for FAQ-grade Urad and ₹8,600 per quintal for SQ-grade Urad. Similarly, Mumbai Urad prices also witnessed a decline of ₹100 per quintal this week, closing the weekend at ₹7,850 per quintal.
Burma:
Due to increased selling by exporters and persistently sluggish export demand, Burma Urad prices declined by $5 per tonne for both FAQ and SQ grades during the current week. Following this decline, prices at the weekend stood at $820 per tonne for FAQ-grade and $900 per tonne for SQ-grade Urad.
Delhi:
Influenced by the downward trend at the ports and sluggish demand, Urad prices in Delhi recorded a decline of ₹75–125 per quintal this week. With this decline, prices at the weekend settled at ₹8,225 per quintal for FAQ-grade and ₹8,900 per quintal for SQ-grade Urad.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to increased selling pressure and sluggish buying activity, a decline of ₹100–125 per quintal was observed in Madhya Pradesh Urad prices during the current week. Maharashtra
