Fluctuation in wheat prices according to demand and supply

New Delhi. Government procurement of wheat has almost stopped after reaching a little over 300 lakh tonnes, but purchases by traders and millers are continuing. Wheat is arriving in important wholesale markets of major producing states and its prices are fluctuating on the basis of demand and lifting.
Delhi
During the week of 7-13 June, the price of wheat in Delhi fell by Rs 15 to Rs 2735/2740 per quintal, but in Indore it jumped by Rs 150 to Rs 2430/2660 per quintal and in Dewas it increased by Rs 100 to Rs 2400/3100 per quintal. Prices were seen soft in Ujjain and Itarsi.
Rajasthan
Mixed trend was seen in the markets of Rajasthan. There, the price of wheat fell by Rs 50 in Kota Mandi to Rs 2400/2550 per quintal but rose by Rs 75 in Baran Mandi to Rs 2410/2550 per quintal. The price in Bundi was Rs 5 softer.
Uttar Pradesh
In the major mandis of Uttar Pradesh, the price of wheat fell by Rs 25 to Rs 40 per quintal and hence the mandi price came down to be very close to the government support price.
Arrival
The daily arrival of wheat in Delhi was 6000 to 10,000 bags. Arrival in the mandis of Madhya Pradesh is almost normal but heavy arrival of new goods is happening in all the three mandis of Rajasthan - Kota, Baran and Bundi.
Stock Limit
The imposition of storage limit on wheat by the government has created an atmosphere of panic among traders / stockists and even big producers are trying to unload their stock in the mandis in view of the weak market price.
Export
The government has clearly refused to allow commercial export of wheat and its products. The minimum support price of wheat has been fixed at Rs 2425 per quintal this time and its wholesale market price is not much higher than this.
