Wheat prices rise sharply due to buying by millers and processors
New Delhi. With the off-season for supply, wheat sales have stopped in major producing and trading markets. As a result, wheat arrivals have decreased, and with government wheat sales also suspended, demand from millers and processors led to a price increase of up to Rs. 100 per quintal during the week of December 27th to January 2nd.
Delhi
In Delhi, prices rose by Rs. 100 to Rs. 2930/2950 per quintal, while daily arrivals increased from 3500 bags to 7000 bags. Although the markets in Rajkot, Indore, and Dewas remained stable, prices improved by Rs. 45 and Rs. 30 in Dabra and Itarsi, respectively.
Rajasthan
With good trading activity, wheat prices in Kota, Rajasthan, increased by Rs. 75 and in Bundi by Rs. 70, reaching Rs. 2500/2600 per quintal and Rs. 2450/2570 per quintal, respectively.
Uttar Pradesh
Similarly, some markets in Uttar Pradesh also witnessed a price increase. Wheat prices rose by Rs. 70 in Gorakhpur to Rs. 2720 per quintal, by Rs. 100 in Gonda to Rs. 2710 per quintal, by Rs. 75 in Mainpuri to Rs. 2575 per quintal, and by Rs. 110 in Etah to Rs. 2600 per quintal. Similarly, the Japna market in Maharashtra also saw a price increase of Rs. 100, reaching Rs. 2600/2800 per quintal.
Sowing
Sowing of wheat, the most important food grain of the Rabi season, has reached its final stage, and the area under cultivation is slightly ahead of last year. The crop condition is reported to be satisfactory, indicating the possibility of better production. Storage limits are in effect for wheat, and traders' stocks are rapidly decreasing.
