Wheat Allocation in PMGKAY May Increase Due to Rising Government Procurement: News Agency
★ A news agency has reported that this year, government wheat procurement is progressing well, which could lead to an increase in wheat allocation under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in the future.
★ For the past three years, the wheat procurement target had not been met, but this year it is highly likely to be achieved.
★ In October 2024, the government allocated 22 million tonnes of wheat for its welfare schemes, of which 3.5 million tonnes were for PMGKAY.
★ In 2022, the government increased rice allocation instead of wheat in several states.
★ During the marketing year 2022–23, 5.5 million tonnes of rice were allocated in place of wheat.
★ If government procurement surpasses the target this year, wheat allocation in various government schemes is expected to increase again, as it did earlier.
