Wheat Prices Likely to Stay Stable on Balanced Supply-Demand

New Delhi. Wheat prices have remained steady across most major wholesale markets in the country, and analysts expect only limited fluctuations in the near term due to a balanced demand-supply situation.
Additionally, the government's indication of launching the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) has helped maintain psychological pressure on prices.
In Madhya Pradesh’s benchmark Indore market, wheat prices held firm at ₹2,730 per quintal. Similarly, in Kota Mandi, Rajasthan, prices hovered between ₹2,475–2,500 per quintal with improved arrivals reaching 7,000 sacks. In Delhi, prices were reported at ₹2,750 per quintal.
Rahul Chauhan, Director of agri-market research firm I Grain India, stated that wheat prices may fluctuate within a limited range in the coming weeks.
He added that the government appears satisfied with the current market conditions and may delay the start of OMSS e-auctions until after July-August.
Before launching wheat sales from the central pool, the government is expected to consider stricter stockholding limits for traders. Chauhan noted that with sufficient market supply, an early start to OMSS may not be justified.
The reserve price under OMSS has been set at ₹2,550 per quintal—higher than last year’s ₹2,300–2,325 range and above the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,425 for the 2024–25 season.
The government has about 60–65 lakh tonnes of additional wheat stock available for OMSS, though the timing of its release remains uncertain.
