Wheat Reserve Price Set Under OMSS

New Delhi. The Union Food Ministry has formally announced the minimum reserve price for wheat to be sold under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
The reserve price of wheat for the current Rabi marketing season (2025–26) has been fixed at Rs 2550 per quintal, which will be applicable for flour millers/processors,
central cooperative agencies—NAFED, NCCF, the Central Warehousing Corporation—and community kitchen operators. This price does not include transportation costs, which buyers will have to pay separately.
The government clarified that private millers will not be permitted to supply wheat under the Bharat Brand Atta Scheme; only designated consent agencies will be allowed to receive wheat for this purpose.
Additionally, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will be responsible for deciding when to begin wheat sales under OMSS, the total quantity to be sold, and the maximum quantity per buyer, in consultation with the Food Ministry.
Earlier, it was speculated that FCI might begin weekly e-auctions of wheat under OMSS from August 2025. However, no formal decision or announcement has been made yet.
Notably, IGrain India recently reported that the base price for OMSS wheat could be set at Rs 2550 per quintal, excluding transport charges—a forecast that has now proven accurate.
The government is also expected to share further details about the sale soon. There is a possibility that it will allocate a wheat sale quota of 60–65 lakh tonnes, potentially released in two or three phases.
