1,030 metric tonnes of rice imported from India through Benapole Port
In the period from November 18 to November 27, a total of 1,030 metric tonnes of rice was imported from India via Benapole Land Port in nine consignments. This rice was transported in 33 trucks. The Food Ministry has allowed the duty-free import of rice until December 10, providing an opportunity to stabilize rice prices in the domestic market.
The rice was purchased by the importer, Arco Trading, at a price of Taka 53 per kilogram, while locally, coarse rice prices range between Taka 48-49 per kg due to the arrival of the new Aman crop. The continuous importation of rice through Benapole Port could help maintain price stability in the local market, although factors like heavy rainfall and the ongoing harvesting of the new rice crop could impact this situation.
