Jaipur: Although the supply of mustard decreased in December and January due to the off-season, the total arrival in the mandis (wholesale markets) during the 11 months from March 2025 to

January 2026 exceeded 100 lakh tonnes. This ensured a regular and adequate supply of mustard to crushing and processing units, leading to an increase in crushing activity.

According to data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of M/s Marudhar Trading Agency, a popular and reliable establishment located in the Chandpole grain market in Jaipur, the national-level supply of mustard in mandis during the current Rabi marketing season was 14.50 lakh tonnes in March 2025, 15.00 lakh tonnes in April, 11.00 lakh tonnes in May,

10.00 lakh tonnes in June, 8.00 lakh tonnes in July, 7.50 lakh tonnes in August, 7.00 lakh tonnes in September, 7.50 lakh tonnes in October, 6.50 lakh tonnes in November, and 4.00 lakh tonnes in December, while 4.50 lakh tonnes were recorded in January 2026.

In addition, 50,000 tonnes of mustard arrived at government procurement centers in March 2025, 9.00 lakh tonnes in April, and 25,000 tonnes in May.

Thus, the total arrival of mustard in open markets and government procurement centers combined from March 2025 to January 2026 was 105.25 lakh tonnes.

According to the Marudhar Trading Agency report, government agencies like NAFED and HAFED had an old stock of 7 lakh tonnes of mustard, while they purchased 9.75 lakh tonnes during the current season.

Of this, 14.75 lakh tonnes have been sold, and they now have a stock of only 2 lakh tonnes of mustard remaining. According to the report, oil mills crushed 109.25 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds during the 11 months from March 2025 to January 2026.  7 lakh tonnes were crushed in January alone.

On March 1, 2025, a carryover stock of 1 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds was available, while 105.25 lakh tonnes were supplied by January 2026. Of this, 9.75 lakh tonnes were procured by government agencies, which, along with the previous stock, allowed them to sell 14.75 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds, as the open market price of mustard was significantly higher than the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

On February 1, 2026, a total stock of 9 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds remained in the country, with 5 lakh tonnes held by farmers, 2 lakh tonnes by traders/millers, and 2 lakh tonnes by government agencies.
