ABARES June Report
★ Australia's agency ABARES has projected a decline in the production of wheat, barley, canola, and desi chickpeas in its June report. Lentil production, however, is expected to rise.
★ Lentil production is estimated at 15 lakh tonnes, a 17% increase over last year and 71% above the 10-year average.
★ Chickpea production is expected to decline by 17% to 19 lakh tonnes. Despite an increase in acreage, productivity is reported to be lower. Even so, this output would still be 96% higher than the 10-year average.
★ Wheat production is forecast to fall 10% to 306 lakh tonnes, barley by 3% to 128 lakh tonnes, and canola by 6% to 57 lakh tonnes.
★ It has often been observed that this agency initially gives lower production estimates, which are later revised as the season progresses.
