Thiruvananthapuram. According to the Meteorological Department, after a one-day pause, the northeast monsoon has reactivated in South India. Rains began today, December 4th, and will continue in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 5th.

Rains virtually stopped on December 3rd in northern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, the Rayalaseema, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, but a low-pressure area developed over the region, leading to a resumption of rains on December 4th.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred in some areas from the evening of December 3rd to the morning of December 4th, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded in isolated areas in Tamil Nadu and the Rayalaseema.

Similarly, heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Karnataka. This has flooded fields, raising the possibility of damage to Rabi crops. If the rains continue tomorrow, December 5th, the situation could worsen in many areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday, December 5th, while thunderstorms are possible in some other areas.

On December 3rd, a rain-producing low pressure area was located over the interior of Tamil Nadu and is moving southward, attempting to reach the Ghat areas. However, it weakened upon reaching Kerala. However, a strong cyclonic circulation remains there.
