Tur Market Under Pressure All Week; Bearish Sentiment Prevails Due to Weak Demand
Mumbai: Throughout the current week, the Tur market remained characterized by persistent weakness. A lack of buying interest and sluggish demand kept prices under pressure, resulting in a clearly visible downward trend in the market. Trading activities remained limited, and a distinct lack of enthusiasm was observed in the market. Right from the beginning of the week, Tur dal failed to generate the expected level of demand. Due to weak consumption at both retail and wholesale levels, dal millers adopted a cautious stance, purchasing only limited quantities strictly based on their immediate requirements. The millers' slow pace of buying failed to provide any substantial support to the market, causing prices to continue their downward slide. Despite Tur arrivals in the *mandis* (wholesale markets) remaining at normal levels, demand remained weak. The imbalance between supply and demand exerted additional pressure on the market. Traders and stockists, observing the prevailing bearish sentiment, also refrained from purchasing at higher price levels, which further intensified the selling pressure. *iGrain India* believes that the pressure on the Tur market is likely to persist until there is a revival in the demand for Tur dal. If consumption picks up or millers accelerate their buying activity in the near future, prices may find some support. For the time being, the market's direction appears to hinge on the balance between supply and demand. Driven by increased selling by importers and continued sluggish demand, prices for African Tur in the Mumbai market witnessed a decline of ₹100 per quintal this week. Following this decline, prices at the weekend settled as follows (per quintal): Mozambique White at ₹6,250–₹6,300; Gajri at ₹6,150–₹6,200; Matwara at ₹6,100–₹6,150; Malawi at ₹5,900; and Sudan at ₹7,800. Meanwhile, in the Chennai market, prices for Tur Lemon also recorded a decline of ₹150 per quintal, bringing the price down to ₹7,550 per quintal by the end of the week. **Imports**
Due to persistently weak export demand, a decline of $5 per ton was recorded in the prices of Burmese Tur (Pigeon Pea) this week; following this decline, prices settled at $835 per ton by the weekend.

Consequently, by the weekend, prices stood at ₹7,750 per quintal for the Lemon variety and ₹8,000–₹8,100 per quintal for the Desi variety.
